Overcoming Insecurity
Have you ever found yourself saying “I am” not enough, “I am” too young, “I am” not this or that or insert whatever you might’ve said to yourself throughout your life that was a direct result of insecurity and often pride. For when we get caught up in what we can and cannot do, we negate the power of God in our lives and that we are called to rely on Him for all things. For we have been called to rest within God’s strength, knowing that “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (1 Timothy 1:7 KJV).
A good friend on mine recently just two weeks ago told me the following:
“Remember, even when in doubt, it's okay to do it scared! Do it with nerves, without much support— just do it!”
Oh how my friend’s words of encouragement were life giving! How often do we not do what God has called us to do out of fear? Well there were so many people in the Bible that felt the same! From Jeremiah, to Jonah, to Moses…many mighty children of God would go back and forth with God out of fear that they were not enough to carry out the call that God had on their lives. Let’s take a look at some scriptures to highlight these moments (scroll down towards the bottom for the referenced scriptures) so that we can be a part of a generation that may be scared but does it anyway! Who may fear rejection and the thoughts and opinions of man, but does it anyway! Who may not understand fully what God is doing, but does it anyway! It is time to be a generation that “does it anyway”, no matter the barriers or circumstances, because God will always be with us and not forsake us, He goes before us: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9 NIV).
So, what has God called you to? What is God asking you to do today? Whether that is turning away from sin in some form: addictions of sex, drugs, gambling, etc. or calling you to step out in faith to carry out the anointing and call on your life! Know that what God is calling you to may very well be nothing that you could’ve thought of or even pictured; “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV). That is often what happens and we either will do it anyway or run away like Jonah or make excuses like Jeremiah and Moses. Who will you be? Will you be obedient like Prophet Elijah, Prophet Deborah, Apostle Paul, and or Esther? For God had a high calling on their lives and though it was far from easy, they followed God obediently and faithfully.
It is now time for you to do the same, for our time and days on earth are numbered (Psalm 39:4-13). Do not delay your yes anymore! Step out in faith, obediently trusting God’s plan and perfect will for your life. For God says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11 NLT).
It is my prayer that you do not allow your own fears and the enemy, Satan, to deter you from being obediently and faithfully to what God has called you to! For you are chosen! God says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1 Peter 2:9 NIV).
I am praying for the each of you to stand strong and firm in your faith, and to know that you indeed have been made for such a time as this! That you are chosen and worthy! That someone’s deliverance is dependent on your obedience! You are needed by God to bring Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven! God’s got you brother and sister, keep the faith!
In Jesus’ name, Amen!
Love,
Brya
Scriptures
Jeremiah
“The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.”“ ~Jeremiah 1:4-10 NIV
Moses
“Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?” Then the Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied. The Lord said, “Throw it on the ground.” Moses threw it on the ground and it became a snake, and he ran from it. Then the Lord said to him, “Reach out your hand and take it by the tail.” So Moses reached out and took hold of the snake and it turned back into a staff in his hand. “This,” said the Lord, “is so that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has appeared to you.” Then the Lord said, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” So Moses put his hand into his cloak, and when he took it out, the skin was leprous—it had become as white as snow. “Now put it back into your cloak,” he said. So Moses put his hand back into his cloak, and when he took it out, it was restored, like the rest of his flesh. Then the Lord said, “If they do not believe you or pay attention to the first sign, they may believe the second. But if they do not believe these two signs or listen to you, take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground. The water you take from the river will become blood on the ground.” Moses said to the Lord, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him. But take this staff in your hand so you can perform the signs with it.” ~ Exodus 4:1-17 NIV
Jonah
“Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.” But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.“ ~Jonah 1:2-3 NIV
